CHANDIGARH:Top seed Nishank Thakur downed Raidular Singh 4-2 4-0 to ease into the boys’ U-16 second round in the ongoing Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) National Ranking Championship at the Roots Tennis Academy in Zirakpur on Tuesday.

Top seed Nishank Thakur downed Raidular Singh 4-2 4-0 to ease into the boys’ U-16 second round in the ongoing Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) National Ranking Championship at the Roots Tennis Academy in Zirakpur on Tuesday. 

Shrayvir blanked Shivansh Gupta 4-0 4-0, while Dhruv Aggarwal drubbed Satvik Singla 4-0 4-1. Devansh Verma rallied from a set down to overcome Yuvraj Chodha in the opening round. 

Verma lost the first set 2-4 but came back into the match with a 4-2 win in the second set. He then beat his opponent 7-4 in the tie-breaker to sail into the second round.  

Samrvir Singh had an easy outing against Veerinder Singh as he eased into the second round with a comfortable 4-1 4-0 victory. Paras Chauhan overcame Harjot Singh 2-4 4-1 (7-3), while Param Pratap beat Tushar Bajaj 5-3 4-2. 

Third seed Navya Verma tamed Mehtaab Singh 4-0 4-1. Fourth seed Rishi Dahiya registered a 4-2 4-0 win over Arnav Bishnoi, while Dhruv Pratap dumped Ashar Iqbal 4-1 4-1. Rattan Kabir packed off Narottam Singh 4-2 4-2 in the first round. 

Sahej Preet Singh edged Kshitij Kaushik 4-0 4-2 and Lakshya Gupta mastered Aarush Sharma 4-1 4-0. Kanvarpreet Singh humbled Labh Bothra 4-2 4-0, while Pratham Krishan registered an identical win over Balwant Singh 

Second seed Dhairya Chadha marched into the second round after a 4-1 4-0 win over Kathith Sehgal.

Sahej advances  

In the boys’ U-14 category, top seed Sahej Preet Singh lived up to his billing as he dismissed Jashandeep Singh 4-0 4-0 to march into the second round. Parth Sharma registered a 4-1 4-2 win over Daksh, while Dhruv Pratap tamed Abhishek 4-0 4-1. Kanvarpreet Singh edged Prabir Singh 4-0 4-2 in the opening round.

Parampratap Singh downed Gurbaaz Singh 4-0 4-1, while Shrayvir registered an identical win over Manjot Singh. Yash Jindal overcame Varyam in a see-saw battle to stay alive in the competition.  

Jindal won the opening set 5-4(4), but Varyam drew level with a 4-2 win in the second set. Jindal, though, held his nerve to win the decider 7-4 to move into the next round. 

Shubham Singh eased past Rishi Dahiya 4-2 4-2, while Devansh Verma defeated Kartik 4-2 4-1. Rattan Kabir beat Iren Singh 5-3 4-0 and Harjot Singh blanked Kabir 4-0 4-0. 

Dhruv Aggarwal dumped Hardik Khanduja 4-1 4-1. Aarush Sharma packed off Chaitanya Bansal 4-0 4-1, while Satvik Singla overcame Pratham 4-1 4-5(8) (8-6) in the opening round. Second seed Lakshya Gupta registered a convincing 4-1 4-1 win over Janish in the opening round.
