Chandigarh, January 20

Chhattisgarh beat Gujarat by seven wickets in the opening match of the National Wheelchair Cricket Tournament, organised by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, here today. 

Put in to bat, Gujarat scored 88/5 in 10 overs, with Bheema scoring a 50. For the bowling side, Sunil clinched three wickets. 

Chhattisgarh, in reply, rode on Pohsan’s 44-run knock to reach home with seven wickets to spare.

In another match, Chhattisgarh registered a 53-run win over Punjab. 

Batting first, Chhattisgarh scored 112 with Poshan hitting an impressive 59. In reply, Punjab were all out for 69 runs. 

Punjab, though, shrugged their disappointment to register an eight-wicket win over Gujarat. 

Opting to bat, Gujarat scored 86 runs, with Bhima hitting a solid 58. In reply, Punjab reached home in nine overs with Rohit (46) and Veer (31) making vital contributions to the chase. 

Earlier in the day, Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki inaugurated the event at Punjab Engineering College here.
