Two children killed in hit-and-run cases

A three-year-old child was run over by a car in a hit-and-run case at Sector 70 near Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan here.

The victim, identified as Iraaj Prashar, was crossing the road with his father, Ratnakar, at the time of incident, which occurred around 2 pm on Sunday. The victim was shifted to a nearby hospital at Sohana in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries later.

According to the police, the father-son duo had gone to Sector 70 for some work. “They were crossing the road after finishing the work when a Verna car came at a high speed and hit the child. The victim sustained multiple injuries on the head and other parts of the body,” said the police. Ratnakar said they belonged to Bihar and were residing at Sohana village. After hitting the child, the car driver sped away from the spot. However, the registration number of the vehicle was jotted down and given to the police, said sources. The police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC against the unknown driver of the Verna car at the Mataur police station. “Investigations are on. Soon, the car driver will be nabbed,” said the police. — TNS
