Why score a self-goal?

With reference to the news report “HSVP to set up night food street in P’kula” (Chandigarh Tribune, January 2), it is unbelievable that the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) is planning to set up a night food street on a vacant piece of land near the ‘drain’ passing through Sectors 2 and 4 in Panchkula.

While the proposed move of the HSVP will generate funds for itself by auctioning the site/s as there there is no ‘official’ night food street in the city, but the moot question is why opt for its ‘maiden’ food shelter and that too near a drain? What about the imminent health hazards associated therewith? Ironically, illegal vendors can still be seen selling fast food in various parts of the city despite the administration’s anti-encroachment drive against them. Does it not truly reveal it’s real inside story? Could such a worrisome and hapless scenario ever come to the rescue of the HSVP in changing its image among city residents? No guesses please!

Adulteration of milk

Synthetic milk is selling in each and every corner of Punjab. Raids conducted by the authorities concerned are appreciable. The state government should develop a strip or an instrument with the help of phamaceutical companies, which can check adultration of milk at home. It will be more helpful if culprits are brought to the book. More raids should be conducted to check milk adulteration especially around educational institutions where our future is growing.

No end to woes

I am a resident of Rajdhani Co-operative House Building Society Ltd, Sector 49-A, Chandigarh. I regularly pay all society dues, including maintenance charges. The society has verbally directed its workers gardener and others not to provide any services/ignore my flat which show vindictive attitude. They are infact spoiling the surroundings. Some residents are even throwing construction debri in the area and creating unhygienic conditions.
