As the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) invites entries for heritage quiz, there are multiple schools, organisations, places promoting heritage education among the young.
Themed ‘Our Water Heritage,’ is a quiz open for affiliated schools around the globe. The quiz shall have 25 per cent questions on the life and political journey of Mahatma Gandhi. The interested schools can submit their entries till September 30. The quiz competition is held to raise awareness about preserving human heritage, diversity and vulnerability of India’s monuments and heritage sites.
Schools, social organisations and individuals are making sure that young minds form a connection with their roots. A unique start up, City on Pedals, provides a chance to tour to city’s iconic places, helping travellers to understand the charm of lanes of the Walled City, its food, culture, heritage. The start-up has employed many youngsters of the city helping visitors to get a feel of the place.
Rishab Mahajan, co-owner of City on Pedals said: “We have people coming from different parts of the world. We want to tell them about our city, heritage. As the name suggests bicycles rides are organised. City –based youngsters have joined us in huge number. We cover places which are usually missed by travellers.”
CBSE schools have also been imparting heritage education as per directions of the board. Spring Dale Senior School as part of the Heritage education programme has adopted a heritage site, Pul Moran, also known as Pul Kanjri, located about 35 km away from Amritsar. The students and teachers undertake various projects for conservation and promotion of the monument.
Principal Spring Dale Senior School Rajiv Kumar Sharma, said, “We have designed a curriculum for students of class I –Class XII depending upon their understanding. The activity-based curriculum focuses on student’s visits on various heritage aspects. The aim is to include both Tangible, and intangible sides of our legacy.”
“A number educational tours and activities are held across the year to help child connect with roots. We take them to historic site including Ram Bagh Gardens, Jallianwala Bagh, Partition Museum and others.” said Principal DAV Public School, Neera Sharma.
