CISF imposes new rules on its jawans at airports

On revelation of connivance of the security force at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport with gold smugglers, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has formed fresh guidelines in which officers and jawans who come in contact with commuters will be shifted every six months. Besides, they are barred from keeping mobile phones during duty hours, said CISF Director General O P Singh.

The information has been given to all 59 airports in a recently held meeting of the CISF and the heads of airports.

During the meeting, it has been clarified that if any case of involvement of CISF personnel with gold smugglers comes to light in any airport, the unit commander of the specific will have to face the action.

Recently at Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kochi airports, incidents of gold smuggling with the connivance of CISF jawans have come to light.

A few days ago, the Director of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the Bengaluru airport was arrested with gold smugglers.

Similarly, a few cases were also reported from Mumbai and Kochi airports. Observing that these cases taint the image of the security force, the CISF headquarters has decided to fix responsibility on the unit commanders.

According to the CISF Director General, “In any matter of involvement of corruption against anybody from our force, we have adopted a policy of zero tolerance."
