Swaraj Abhiyan and Mahila Manch started their 20-day ‘Shiksha Swaraj Yatra’ from Dehradun today. The march is in protest against commercialisation of education and increasing corruption in Uttarakhand. It aims to spread awareness and create a parallel political option for the masses in the state.

Kamla Pant of Mahila Manch said the yatra would cover all 13 districts of the state during which activists would organise street plays and public meetings to spread awareness. In these 20 days, volunteers would also gather suggestions from the masses about solving the problem of degrading education system and increasing corruption, Pant stated.

Activists alleged that both the Congress and the BJP were power hungry but none of them had ever tried to improve the situation during their reign. Now, the time had come when the public had to correct the situation, they added.
