UT police hold ‘city sealing’ drive

Ahead of festive season, the Chandigarh Police held a special ‘city sealing’ drive from 4 pm to 8 pm today.

The four-hour drive was conducted under the supervision of Inspector General of Police RP Upadhyay.

SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “The city police have made special arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. Such nakas are essential to maintain law and order in the city and to keep a check on anti-social elements.”

A total of 106 checkpoints were set up by the police, comprising India Reserve Battalion (IRB) and paramilitary forces. Total 38 outer nakas and 68 internal nakas were set up across the city. About 980 police personnel, including 15 DSPs, 38 Inspectors and SHOs and 16 police post in-charges, constables, women constables and home guard volunteers were deployed at these nakas.

A total of 7,318 two-wheelers were checked. As many as 302 vehicles were challaned for various traffic violations while 42 vehicles were impounded, the police said.
