18 cops suspended for dereliction of duty

FAZILKA: Eighteen police personnel — including seven assistant sub inspectors (ASIs), six head constables and five constables — have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty in Fazilka district.

Eighteen police personnel — including seven assistant sub inspectors (ASIs), six head constables and five constables — have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty in Fazilka district.

Police sources said the mass suspension came when Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Fazilka, Gurpratap Singh in a surprise raid found that these police personnel were absent from their duty at night barriers laid at different locations in Fazilka district, two days ago.

The DSP had conducted raids on the directions of senior police officers. While confirming the suspension, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Fazilka, Swapan Sharma said the policemen who were not present on duty during the checking at the night nakas had been suspended.

The suspended employees are ASIs Krishan Kumar, Paramjit Singh, Ramesh Chander, Sukhpal Singh, Baljinder Singh, Baljit Singh, Pawan Kumar; head constables Balvinder Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Navjot Singh, Kulvinder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Resham Singh and constables Gurbhinder Singh, Varinder Singh, Nirmal Singh, Manpreet Singh and Mohar Singh.

Notably, the Punjab Police laid barriers daily from 10 pm to 6 am at different locations for the safety of people and to check smuggling of drugs and infiltration of anti-social elements in the border district, which shares its boundary with Haryana and Rajasthan.
