Agriculture dept reviews projects of silk industry

Financial Commissioner (FC), Agriculture Production Department (APD), Pramod Jain, today chaired a meeting of the State-Level Project Monitoring Committee of the Sericulture Development Department.

During the meeting, Jain reviewed the projects planned for the development of the silk industry in the state with the support of the Central Silk Board.

Director, Sericulture, Malik Farooq, apprised the members of the physical and financial achievements of the department under various components of Centrally sponsored schemes. He said the Department of Sericulture had taken various initiatives for the uplift of this sector so that the silk industry was developed on a sustainable basis.

During the current financial year, 973 metric tonnes of cocoon production was recorded thus registering an increase of 3 per cent than the last year. Out of this, 145 metric tonnes raw silk was produced.

While speaking on the occasion, the Financial Commissioner stressed upon the officers to put in strenuous efforts to optimally achieve the set targets under various schemes.
