Under fire over the Sikh clergy’s decision to pardon Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and SGPC top brass were conspicuous by their absence at an event organised at the Golden Temple to mark the death anniversary of General AS Vaidya’s assassins, Sukha and Jinda, today.

An ‘akhand path’ was organised at Akal Takht to mark the occasion. Sikh leaders present there felicitated Jinda’s brother Bhupinder Singh and Sukha’s family members by presenting them “siropas” (robe of honour).

The absence of the Akal Takht Jathedar and the SGPC top brass at the event was much talked about in the Panthic circles this morning. Among those present on the occasion included Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh, AISSF chief Karnail Singh Peermohammed, SAD (Amritsar) leaders Jarnail Singh Sakheera and Harbir Singh Sandhu.

The Akal Takht Jathedar and SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar also gave a miss to the concluding day events of the three-day fair at Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib in Tarn Taran on Thursday. Both of them were scheduled to address a gathering there.
