Chandigarh: One more person died of dengue in Mohali district today taking the death toll of the tricity to 14. As many as 42 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the tricity hospitals.

One more person died of dengue in Mohali district today taking the death toll of the tricity to 14. As many as 42 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the tricity hospitals. Out of the 42 cases, 16 fresh patients are from Chandigarh, 22 from Mohali district and four from Panchkula. All four fresh cases of chikungunya were reported from Chandigarh and no case was reported from Mohali and Panchkula today. 

As per the UT Health Department, 16 fresh dengue cases were reported today at various health institutes in the city. Out of the 16, 12 new cases and four confirmed amongst probable cases brought the total number of dengue cases to 238 in the city. 

Four new cases of chickungunya have been reported by the GMCH-32 and the PGI. So far, 24 cases of chickungunya have been detected in Chandigarh 

To further strengthen preventive measures, the UT Health Department is carrying out daily fumigation and field activities have been intensified. These include mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres  to name a few. 

In Mohali, 10 fresh cases were reported, out of the total 22 cases, which is the highest in the district. Rest five cases were reported from Kharar and other villages and one each from Zirakpur and Dera Bassi town. The total number of dengue cases received in Mohali district so far is 722 till date. 

With the four fresh cases of dengue, the total number has reached 83 in Panchkula.
