Water cannons were used against the Congress workers protesting the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

As many as 400 workers led by MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, CLP leader Charanjit Channi, deputy leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu, DCC chief Gurpreet Gogi and other leaders gathered outside the barricaded gates of the Mini Secretariat.

The protesters wanted to give bangles to the police as the latter had failed to ensure law and order in the state.

Earlier, senior leaders addressed the agitators and highlighted the rising crime graph. Channi said that there is a lot of resentment among the people because of the wrong policies of the government. The workers also raised slogans against Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal and Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

The water cannon stationed inside the gate of Mini Secretariat was used to disperse the protesters.

Many workers pelted stones at the cannon to register their protest. They also threw bangles at the policemen. The protesters regrouped and were pushed away by the police again. Another water cannon was brought to the venue to disperse the protestors. Bittu, Ashu and Gogi were detained by the police and released after a couple of hours.
