CHANDIGARH: Ishwar Pratap Singh Mann, president of the Chandigarh Golf Club, died after a prolonged illness at the PGI today.

Ishwar Pratap Singh Mann, president of the Chandigarh Golf Club, died after a prolonged illness at the PGI today. Mann (63) is survived by wife Dr Manmeet Mann and son Gurbaz Mann, who is an international golfer.

According to his close friends, Mann had been unwell for the past one month. Officials at the PGI said Mann was admitted to the institute on November 27. He was suffering from glioblastoma, a form of cancer that begins within the brain and leads to multiple organ failure. He died at the PGI around 1 pm today, the officials said.

Mann’s last rites were performed at 4.30 pm at the Sector 25 cremation ground by his son Gurbaz. The cremation was attended by family, close relatives and friends, and members of the Chandigarh Golf Club. 

According to the members of the club, on the request of the family, the news of the untimely death of the IPS, as he was fondly known, was conveyed to limited people through text and phone calls at 3.45 pm. Mann was elected the 25th president of the Chandigarh Golf Club on April 26 this year. He won by a margin of 582 votes to attain the chair for the first time. 

A city industrialist, manufacturing tractor parts for international companies, Mann set up a small ancillary unit of Punjab Tractors Limited in 1970. The unit it now associated with the Swaraj Division of Mahindra and Mahindra Limited.  He is fondly remembered by his close friends, associates and members of the club as a charming personality and thorough gentleman.
