CHANDIGARH:Chandigarh XI defeated Border Security Force (BSF) 2-1 in the 46th SN Vohra’s All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 sports complex here today.

Chandigarh, October 24

Chandigarh XI defeated Border Security Force (BSF) 2-1 in the 46th SN Vohra’s All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 sports complex here today.  The local outfit scored the first goal in the 21st minute through Sahibjeet Singh, but nine minutes later, BSF leveled the score through Sanjeev Kumar. After a defensive period in the match, Amit broke the deadlock in the 65th minute to give Chandigarh the win. In the second match, Namdhari XI beat SGGS Club (Chandigarh) 2-0. Both the goals were scored through penalty corners. Gagandeep Singh scored in the 16th minute, while Bhagat Singh doubled the lead in the 19th minute. Tomorrow, Indian Air Force will play CRPF, while CISF will take on RCF.

Panchkula win roller hockey 

Panchkula district won the boys’ sub-junior title, while Chandigarh finished runners-up on the concluding cay of the Dikshant All India Speed and Hockey League here. Yamunagar claimed the third spot in the event. In girls’ sub-junior category, Panchkula secured maximum points on the league basis to win the championship, while Kurukshetra finished second. In the boys’ junior category, Chandigarh, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra took the top three positions, respectively. In the men’s inline hockey (senior) category, Kurukshetra and Ferozepur won the top two honours.
