Cong MLC asked to write to Privilege Committee

SRINAGAR: Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, today directed a Congress member of the Council to write to the Privilege Committee over the “unparliamentary” remarks of an MLA against the Upper House.

Srinagar, May 28

Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, today directed a Congress member of the Council to write to the Privilege Committee over the “unparliamentary” remarks of an MLA against the Upper House.

The issue was raised by PDP lawmaker Zaffar Manhas, who said during the Governor’s address an MLA accused the members of the Upper House of being the “hub of corruption.”

“He called the members of the Upper House as the hub of corrupt retired officers and rehabilitation centre,” Manhas said. “If he thinks anyone is corrupt he should take legal action, but cannot generalise. We should condemn his remarks.” The other members also expressed their anger over these remarks.

Later, the Deputy Chairman, Ajatshatru Singh, directed Congress MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga to write to the Privilege Committee so that action is taken. — TNS
