Chamkaur Sahib, August 24

Congress workers, led by local MLA and Leader of Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi, today staged a dharna at Morinda road protesting against the poor infrastructure in the area.

Channi said the SAD-BJP government has intentionally avoided development of Chamkaur Sahib for the past nine years.

He said that the so-called panthic party did not even bother to invest a single penny for the betterment of basic infrastructure of the constituency which has religious importance.

Addressing the protesting Congress workers, the Leader of Opposition alleged that the SAD-BJP alliance had diverted all the development funds to the Malwa belt, particularly in those constituencies from where the Chief Minister, his son and daughter-in-law contest elections.

There has been step-motherly treatment with Chamkaur Sahib just because it was being represented by a Congress legislator and that too from a member of the Dalit community, he said.

Channi said that the road network was in a pathetic state in the constituency and work on the theme park started by the Congress government, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, had been stopped by the present government.

He claimed that after his intervention, work on the theme park was restarted two months ago. No government school or hospital was started in the constituency by the present government, he claimed.

After six hours, the Congress workers ended the blockade.
