Death toll rises to 28, damage put at Rs 350 cr

SHIMLA: Heavy rain during the past three days left a trail of destruction, raising the death toll to 28 while the loss due to damage to property touched the Rs 350-crore mark. Moderate to heavy rain occurred in some parts of Himachal. The rain subsided today and barring some parts of Shimla and Solan districts, which experienced moderate rain, the weather remained dry in spite of the cloudy sky.

Heavy rain during the past three days left a trail of destruction, raising the death toll to 28 while the loss due to damage to property touched the Rs 350-crore mark. Moderate to heavy rain occurred in some parts of Himachal.

The rain subsided today and barring some parts of Shimla and Solan districts, which experienced moderate rain, the weather remained dry in spite of the cloudy sky.

Naina Devi received 66 mm of rainfall followed by Kasauli 58 mm, Baldwara 43 mm, Shimla 29 mm, Bijahi 25 mm, Kangra and Jubbal 23 mm each, Pachhad 18 mm, Dharampur and Kumarsein 15 mm each and Sunni Bhajji 12 mm.

The maximum temperature rose marginally and Una was the hottest at 34.8°C followed by Sundernagar 32.5°C, Bhuntar 31.5°C, Nahan 26.8°C, Solan 26.4°C and Shimla 21.6°C. The minimum temperature dropped by two to three degrees and Keylong and Kalpa in tribal areas recorded a low of 12°C and 12.6°C, respectively. The Met office has predicted rain and thundershowers in lower, mid and higher hills during the next six days.
