Mohali, November 26

As many as 812 students were awarded degrees at the eighth convocation of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) here today.

The students from the batches 2012-14, 2013-15 and 2014-16 got the degrees. The degrees awarded were 83 PhDs, 480 MS (Pharm), 58 MPharm, 63 MTech (Pharm) and 128 MBA (Pharm).

Prof Chandrakant Kokate, Vice-Chancellor, KLE University, Belagavi, who was the chief guest, said in his convocation address that the convocation shall always remind one that graduation was not and should not be an end in itself, but was the start of a highly productive life in which personal growth should run parallel to societal growth.

He said NIPER was serving as an effective interface for an academy-industry interaction. The contribution of NIPER in the development of quality control standards for drugs and pharmaceuticals was laudable. The research undertaken by the dedicated team of faculty and scientists at NIPER had been widely acclaimed. He further said that an institution of higher education was an epicentre for knowledge creation, knowledge storage and knowledge explosions. The ecosystem of a higher educational institution should ensure quality so as to produce young graduates who would not only serve themselves, but also lead society in future.

Prof VM Katoch, Chairman, Board of Governors and former DG, ICMR, presided over the function. Prof KK Bhutani, Director (officiating), highlighted the achievements of the institute. Prof PV Bharatam, Dean, introduced the students who had successfully completed the master’s and doctoral programmes and had been found qualified for the award of the institute’s degree. The Director (officiating) administered the pledge to the degree recipients.
