A Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) on duty at the Emergency wing of the local PGIMS allegedly refused to admit a five-year-old rape victim and sent her back in the name of completing the legal formalities.

The girl, who was in a critical condition, was later admitted to the PGIMS after the intervention of Rohtak Civil Surgeon, Dr Deepa Jakhar, who accompanied the girl and her parents to the PGIMS.

The Civil Surgeon also wrote to the PGIMS authorities, asking them to ensure proper care and treatment for the victims of sexual assault.

Sensing the gravity of the matter, the PGIMS authorities constituted a committee to probe the matter.

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice-Chancellor, Dr OP Kalra, said the probe report was expected to be submitted by tomorrow following which appropriate action would be taken in this regard.

The girl, who belongs to Kherli village in the district, was raped on July 11.

The acting Civil Surgeon, Dr Kuldeep Singh, said the girl’s parents took her to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Kalanaur, which referred her to the PGIMS. “However, she was sent back for getting the medico-legal report, which could have been prepared by the doctor on duty at the PGIMS itself,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, a panchayat held at the girl’s village today served a two-day ultimatum on the police to arrest the accused failing which the government school located in the village would be locked.
