The Excise Department today sealed a liquor shop run by the family of liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda at Rani Jhansi Market here for defying the timing schedule. This was the first ever action against the Doda group in the past nine years. Doda is lodged in the sub-jail at Fazilka for about five months in the Bhim Tank killing case.

The team led by Excise Inspector Amrik Singh also sealed a liquor shop reportedly owned by the Bhateja-Balkaran group at Malout Chowk. Officials said liquor shops are licensed to do business from 9 am to 11 pm but complaints indicated that the sale of liquor begins at 7 or 8 am. Both shops have been sealed for two days with a warning notice to the licensees. The team also raided the premises near the Chanankhera canal and destroyed 1,600 liters of hooch. None could be nabbed there.

Muktsar: The excise sleuths have sealed three liquor vends for two days in Muktsar. This has been done as the liquor vends were allegedly flouting norms. The vends sealed include one opposite the bus stand, one on the Bathinda bypass road and one at Dhigana village.
