Emotions fire our passions: Bhagat Singh’s nephew

Patiala: Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s nephew Jagmohan Singh has said emotions fire our passions, but ideas help channel emotions.

Patiala, August 28

Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s nephew Jagmohan Singh has said emotions fire our passions, but ideas help channel emotions.

He was speaking during a discussion on “role of revolutionary movements in the Indian freedom struggle” organised at University College, Ghanaur, near here yesterday.

“The dearth of ideas is responsible for the sorry state of affairs in Punjab. The youth of the state is often misled, emotionally manipulated and used as pawns by powers-that-be to serve their vested interests,” the former professor said.

He quoted Shaheed Bhagat Singh to prove his point: “Bombs and pistols do not make a revolution. The sword of revolution is sharpened on the whetting stone of ideas.”

“The need of the hour is to develop independent and critical thinking. The power of critical analysis empowers the youth to see through the cloaked ideologies and agendas of the state,” he said. — TNS
