Former MLA Hardev Singh Arshi has been unanimously elected secretary of the Punjab State Council of the CPI for next three years. A 24-member state executive of the party has also been elected.

Arshi, who was elected MLA twice in 1992 and 1997 from the Budhlada constituency in Mansa district, had joined the party at a young age. Known for his oratorical skills, Arshi was honoured with the best Parliamentarian award twice by the state Assembly. He has good knowledge of state’s economy and other issues.

He first worked in the drama squad of the party and was inducted as a member of the party in 1963. “There are challenges before the Left parties. I would try my best to engage youth and students who have started playing a significant role to bring about a positive change in the country’s politics,” said Arshi.
