Abohar, December 17

A BJP leader was among three persons who were killed in separate accidents due to fog on the Abohar-Fazilka highway today.

BJP Kisan Morcha district vice-president and two-time former sarpanch Balwinder Singh Bhullar (45) was killed as the Swift car he was driving rammed into a roadside tree near Gharsana.

Passersby found him dead in the car at 8 in the morning. Sources said as thick fog had reduced visibility to 10 metres, no one could notice his vehicle.

In another mishap, least five vehicles and a bus of Punjab Roadways were damaged in a collision. The passengers and staff sustained minor injuries as the vehicles were moving at a slow speed. Some teachers and government employees travelling in two SUVs had a narrow escape.

In yet another mishap, motorcyclists Bhagwan Ram (20) and Deepak (19) were killed and three others were critically injured as a canter hit their vehicles near Sadulshehar, 31 km from here. The injured have been hospitalised.
