Chairmen, principals among 10 booked for faculty ‘scam’

The police booked 10 persons, including chairmen, principals and teaching staff, for allegedly defrauding with students, colleges and the state government.

The case was registered on the direction of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Jagadhri Vijay James by the City police, Jagadhri, under Sections 409, 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120 B of IPC on December 4.

The accused include Jyoti Gupta alias Charu Gupta of Jagadhri, Bharti Bansal of Ludhiana; Rajinder Sharma, Chairman/MD, Chaudhry Devi Lal College of Education, Jagadhri; and Dr Vinod Kumar, principal of the college. Besides, Dr RK Shandilya, president/chairman of Shimla College of Education, Sheetal Kunj Estate, PO Kamla Nagar, Shimla; and principal of the college Dr Manoj Kumar; Ram Krishan, president, Swami Daya Muni Vidya Peeth College of Education, Rohtak (Kalanaur town), and principal of the college Acharya Yash Pal; Sandeep Malik, president, Singh Ram Memorial College of Education, Hisar (Umra village); and Dr Naresh Kumar, principal of the college, have also been booked.

Bhavesh Kumar Aggarwal of Jagadhri, who procured information under the RTI Act, had filed a complaint before the ACJM, requesting investigation of the matter and registration of a case against the persons involved in defrauding. He alleged the local police did not take action on his complaint.

Bhavesh alleged Jyoti Gupta alias Charu Gupta had been working as a teacher at four B.Ed colleges, including Chaudhry Devi Lal College, Singh Ram Memorial College, Swami Daya Muni Vidya Peeth and the Shimla college simultaneously.

Similarly, Bharti Bansal had been working at two educational institutes — Chaudhry Devi Lal College and a public school in Ludhiana district.

“Colleges and schools have to recruit a minimum staff to get registration from the government. But several institutes make bogus recruitments and claim this staff is called occasionally at the time of inspection of government departments. The salaries of such teachers are divided between teachers and the managements. It is not put on record,” said the complainant.

Sources said the bogus staff nexus had been running in a number of educational institutes and it should be probed by government agencies.
