Govt to set up more women colleges, says Khattar

The state government is framing a policy to set up women colleges to ensure that girls do not have to travel beyond 10 km for studies.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said this while addressing a gathering in the Adampur Assembly segment here. He said under the policy, areas would be identified by next year for setting up more colleges. Besides, the government would fill up 3,000 posts of professors in colleges.

“Not even a single girl child should feel deprived of the facility of higher education. She should get this facility in nearby areas,” he said. In the Haryana hinterland, the girls are discouraged from pursuing higher education in the absence of colleges in the close vicinity.

The Chief Minister made various announcements to the tune of Rs 180 crore, including Rs 50 crore, for strengthening the canal irrigation system in the Adampur area. He also announced Rs 15 crore separately for other development works in rural areas.

Earlier, the CM also laid the foundation stone of new campus of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS). He said the government planned to set up Fishery Science College in LUVAS, which would provide employment opportunities to the youth. The government has provided 1,125 acres for the new campus.

“The state government has given an approval for setting up regional livestock centres in Karnal and Mahendragarh districts. Soon, a livestock centre will be set up in Keorak village of Kaithal district. It will help promote animal rearing activities. The university has set up the College of Dairy Science and Technology and Institute of Para Veterinary Sciences and construction work on the Food Safety Laboratory and Forensics Laboratory is in progress,” said the CM.

Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu, who was accompanying Khattar, said the CM was adhering to the policy of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ and ‘Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek (inclusive development)’.

Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister OP Dhankar said the aim of the state government was to top in milk productivity. “Special focus needs to be given to the marketing of milk, so that the dairy sector in the state can be developed on the lines of the Amul model of Gujarat,” he said.
