A grave was allegedly desecrated by some miscreants in Patti village of the Vijaypur area in Samba district here today.

A police spokesperson said residents of Patti village today lodged a complaint with the police that some miscreants had desecrated a grave at a cemetery in their village.

After receiving information, a police team reached the spot to deal with the situation, he said.

“The incident came to light this morning when we found the grave bearing the remains of Resham Bibi, assassinated nearly 12 years ago, was desecrated and had been dug around two feet by some miscreants. We informed the police and demanded action against the culprits,” said Rafeeq Mohammad, a local.

“We believe in communal harmony and brotherhood, but some forces are hell-bent on creating disturbance in our area. We demand action against the desecrators,” he said.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Vijaypur, Abhishek Sharma said the police had recovered two shovels and an empty liquor bottle from the spot.

“We have registered a case and promised action against the miscreants to restore the confidence of the people,” Sharma said.
