GURU NANAK GIRLS COLLEGE

At an NSS camp organised by Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, the NSS volunteers carried out door-to-door campaigning at Gill village. The campaigning was conducted with an objective of spreading awareness about saving house sparrows as well as maintaining a healthy environment. Earthen pots were distributed to the villagers for storing water for birds in summer. Another motive of the camp was also to spread knowledge about various alternatives for traditional fuels which was appreciated by the villagers. The volunteers also organised a plantation drive and raised a slogan, ‘My earth-my duty’. Principal Charanjit Mahal inaugurated the campaign by planting the saplings of fruit trees and shady trees on the college campus. She highlighted the importance of trees for restoring a clean and green environmcnt. The volunteers were encouraged to plant Neem and Sheesham trees. The volunteers were educated about the impact of climate change on earth and global warming.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS

World Environment Day was celebrated by the NSS unit of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management. The college started a seven-day NSS camp under the aegis of the Panjab University, Chandigarh, on Sunday. The camp was conducted by NSS programme officer Professor Meenu Goyal, Professor Jai Parkash and student coordinators Ashu Bansal, Jashan Grewal, Gautam Bansal and Anish Bansal under the supervision of Principal RL Behl. In all, 110 saplings were planted under the initiative, ‘Go green’. A session on first aid was also conducted by Dr Pankaj Gupta and his team from Ludhiana Mediways Hospital, arranged by the hospital admin in-charge, Naveen Aggarwal. Dr RL Behl inaugurated the camp and motivated the students to contribute towards community service. Professor Meenu Goyal said the purpose of organising the camp was to bring a positive change in the behaviour of students and their social perception to make them socially responsible. —TNS
