Sonepat, September 27

The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has issued notices to the Haryana Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Sonepat, Rohtak and Jhajjar in connection with the Jat agitation.

The officials have to send a written reply by November 11.

Social activists Ravinder Dhul, Dr Shamsher Singh, Vikesh Kumar Dahiya and Hans Raj Rana had reportedly filed 30 cases with the commission in July alleging that the human rights were violated by the state government during the agitation. As a result of police firing without prior warning, 28 persons were killed and 10 were permanently disabled.

The activists had stressed that the families of the victims were facing difficulties. They had urged the commission for directing the state government to give compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the families.
