Chandigarh, August 24

In a bid to ensure that the movement of the Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator in the city does not cause any inconvenience to the public, the UT police have decided that both sides of the road on the route will be open for traffic and traffic will only by halted at intersections and light points to give a safe passage to the dignitary.

The police claimed that new UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore had desired that the traffic protocol should be changed.

Earlier, during the tenure of former UT Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki, traffic on both sides of the road used to be stopped during his movement, leading to traffic snarls. The traffic used to be halted a few minutes before the cavalcade used to cross a particular intersection.

The practice continued for around a year and a half.

Eish Singhal, SP (Traffic), said the traffic protocol had been changed on the directions of the UT Administrator.
