MANDI: Deep Prakash Singh (19), a student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, reportedly drowned in Uhal river while taking a selfie.

Mandi, February 17

Deep Prakash Singh (19), a student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, reportedly drowned in Uhal river while taking a selfie. The deceased was a first-year electrical engineering student and belonged to Varanasi in UP.

He left the campus around 4 pm yesterday and failed to return. Thereafter, the IIT authorities complained to the police and a search operation was launched for the missing student. The body was found on the river side today. It was sent to the regional hospital for postmortem examination.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal said preliminary investigation suggested the deceased fell into the river while clicking a selfie.He said the family members of the victim had been informed. — TNS
