The results of the DAV (PG) College students’ union elections were declared here today with Rakesh Negi of the ABVP winning the post of president. He defeated NSUI’s Mohan Bhandari by 23 votes.

This is for the ninth consecutive year that the top post has been won by the ABVP.

Sachin Thapliyal of the Aryan group was elected general secretary and Bhawna vice-president.

The police had made elaborate security arrangements on the college campus for the smooth counting of votes. Additional police force was deployed inside and outside the college.

The counting of votes began at 10 am and the results were declared at 2 pm. The college administration had installed CCTV cameras at the strong room. People with special passes issued by the college were allowed to go to the room.

Later in the day, the winning candidates took out victory processions. However, the police did not allow them to go beyond Survey Chowk in order to maintain law and order.

The supporters and the winners distributed sweets. Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay congratulated Negi on his victory.
