Jind, August 2

The police today booked jail warder Joginder Singh on the charge of allowing some outsiders in the jail without permission.

The incident took place on July 28 when some outsiders entered the jail with the help of the warder. They thrashed an undertrial — Naveen Kumar — who had been imprisoned since February on the charge of rape.

Ramphal of Jind who is a relative of the alleged rape victim has also been booked on the charges of entering the jail and thrashing Naveen.

Sources said the warder did not inform the Jail Superintendent and other officials about Ramphal’s entry in the jail. He told his colleagues that he had called a plumber in the jail, but instead took Ramphal and his accomplices to the Naveen’s barrack. The accused fled the jail when officials came to save Naveen from the assault.

Jail Superintendent Harish Kumar said: “We suspended the jail warder after the incident and a case has been registered on the complaint of jail authorities.Ramphal and the warder are absconding. Naveen’s condition is stable.” City police station SHO Sajjan Singh said: “We are conducting raids. The warder has been booked on the charge of criminal intimidation”. —OC
