Una MLA and BJP state president Satpal Singh Satti today said he proposes to hold a meeting with the Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari in January to seek financial assistance for construction of a flyover and road bypass in Una.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said since the Nangal-Una-Mubarakpur-Talwara Road had already been declared National Highway number 503, the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and Highways should take over the road and upgrade it to the status of a national highway. He said he had taken up the matter in the recent Assembly session, demanding that the state government should take up the issue with the Centre.

Satti said traffic on this road had increased considerably and the dilapidated road condition was one of the main reasons for accidents on this road. He said devotees visiting Baba Balak Nath, Chintpurni and other shrines in Kangra district had to pass through Una city. Besides, he said, long-route traffic plying from Chandigarh to Dharamsala, Hoshiarpur and Hamirpur could avoid the congested city if there were road bypasses.
