Man kills daughter for returning late from school

A man allegedly killed his minor daughter after she returned home late from her school at Gaggon village near here yesterday.

The accused, Balwinder Singh, a watch mechanic, reportedly slit the throat of Mahakdeep Kaur (16) with a sickle and later surrendered before the police.

Des Raj, SHO, Chamkaur Sahib, said he was on a naka duty last evening when Balwinder approached him and said he had killed his daughter near Sirhind canal. When the police reached the spot, Mahakdeep was still alive with severe injuries on the neck. She was taken to a local hospital and then to the PGI where she died, said the SHO.

Balwinder told the police that his daughter, a student of Class XI at a school at Chamkaur Sahib, failed to reply satisfactorily on returning home late which enraged him. The accused has been sent to judicial custody.
