Chandigarh, March 22

Minerva Punjab FC defeated India U-17 probables by a solitary goal in a friendly tie at the Benaulim Trinity Football Ground in Goa today. Baoringdao Bodo scored the winning goal for the side in the first-half of the match.

The game started on an attacking note with strikers from both teams eager to score the opening goal. Minerva strikers Nongdamba Noarem and Bodo jelled well and together with the Amarjeet Mishra posed a serious challenge to India U-17 defence.

The trio finally succeeded when a pass by Mishra set Bodo in perfect position to score in the 17th minute of the match.

Buoyed by an early advantage, Minerva upped the ante and came close to double the lead on at least three occasions, but only to miss the target by a few inches.

The game took an ugly turn in the final minutes of the first half  when India colts’ midfielder Lalengmawia was cautioned for a harsh tackle on a Minerva player.

After the lemon break, Minerva continued to dominate the proceedings and managed to hold on to the lead. — TNS
