Mortal remains to be kept at Rock Garden for people to pay last respects

CHANDIGARH: The mortal remains of Nek Chand will be kept at the Rock Garden, Sector 1, tomorrow from 10 am to 4 pm for the public to pay their last respects to its iconic creator.

The mortal remains of Nek Chand will be kept at the Rock Garden, Sector 1, tomorrow from 10 am to 4 pm for the public to pay their last respects to its iconic creator.

A senior official of the Chandigarh Administration said people could also pay their last respects to Nek Chand, a recipient of the Padma Shri, in different parts of the city.

At around 9.30 am, his mortal remains will be brought by road from his residence in Sector 27 to the Sector 19/27 light point through the Sector 7 and 8 markets and then from the Sector 8 and 9 market junction (near the gurdwara) to the Rock Garden.

Thereafter, Nek Chand’s mortal remains will be kept at the Rock Garden from 10 am to 4 pm in front of the room where he used to sit.

The funeral procession will start from the Rock Garden at 4 pm, and will pass through the roads between Sector 8 and 9, Sector 17 and 18, Sector 21 and 22 and then from the Aroma light point, it will pass through the Sector 22 and 23 markets and from the Sector 23/24 light point to the Sector 25 cremation ground via the Hotel Parkview roundabout.

Engineering Dept staff deputed for arrangements

The UT Administration has deputed the staff of the Engineering Department to make arrangements at Rock Garden. Around 50 employees of the department were seen cleaning the Rock Garden walls and the floor, where Nek Chand’s body will be kept for people to pay their last respects. Outside Rock Garden, the department has put up barricades for crowd management. ADC TPS Phoolka also visited Rock Garden and reviewed the arrangements.
