Chandigarh, February 13

There will be no need for farmers, intending to take loans from banks, to get the mortgage deeds registered from the office of the sub-registar.

Taking note of a representation by Panchkula-based advocate Abhineet Taneja, the Haryana Government has directed Deputy Commissioners, sub-registrars and city magistrates to implement the provisions of the Haryana Agricultural Credit Operations and Miscellaneous Provisions (Banks) Act, 1973, so that farmers who avail the loan facility by mortgaging their land do not face any harassment.

In view of the provisions incorporated under the Act, there is no need for farmers to go to the sub-registrar’s office for getting the mortgage deed registered. Now, the Tehsildar concerned will have to mark the lien of the bank in the revenue records on the basis of the declaration given by a farmer in the bank.

Taneja termed it a “pro-people step”, and said a lot of time and money of farmers, bank officials and administration would be saved and farmers would be able to get hassle-free loans.
