New Delhi, April 26

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the progress of key infrastructure sectors, including the Qazigund-Banihal tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir and the Char Dham Yatra project in Uttarakhand.

In a broad overview of the progress in the roads and railways sectors, the Prime Minister called for a consolidated approach to existing projects and working towards their completion within strict timelines.

The 8.5-km Qazigund-Banihal project got underway in 2011 and its target date of completion is next year. According to reports, the excavation work for it is over.

Meanwhile, the ambitious Char Dham Yatra project envisages construction of a 900-km road. The foundation stone for the Rs 12,000-crore project was laid in December last year and the plan is to make it ready by 2018.

The review meeting on Tuesday lasted for about four and a half hours and was attended by top officials from the PMO, NITI Aayog and all infrastructure ministries of the government.
