Pratiksha, a student of BVM High School in the remote Ramnagar area of the district, wants to be an IAS officer. And she has a reason for pursuing her aim as she has topped the J&K Board of School Education’s Secondary School (Class X) exam scoring 98.40 per cent.

For her, it is the hard work and dedication that pay rich dividends in life. “It hardly matters if a student belongs to a village, comes from a middle class family or studies in a small school,” she told The Tribune. “I always aimed to be an IAS officer and my achievement today is the first step in that direction,” she added.

Pratiksha’s feat has not come without hard work. She burnt the midnight oil all through the academic year and took only three hours’ sleep every night in the last two months before appearing for the exams. “My mother, who is a teacher, is my guide and source of inspiration. She helped me in clarifying concepts,” said Pratiksha.

Virinder Kumar, father of Pratiksha, who is an employee of the Medical Department, said he could not give time to her daughter during exams because of busy schedule. “She is hard working and dedicated and I had full confidence that she will bring laurels not only to the family, but to the entire region.”
