Dehradun, March 31
Retrenched workers and lab assistants, who were employed under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RAMSA), burnt the effigies of BJP MPs at Lansdowne Chowk here today in protest against the sacking of 1,863 employees. The RAMSA workers alleged that all five MPs from the state had failed to raise their issue with the Central government. They said the employees were sacked after the Central government reduced the budget for the scheme but none of the MP opposed the step.
A day after a protest at the Secretariat, the RAMSA workers gathered at Lansdowne Chowk today and raised slogans against the Central government. They burnt the effigies of the five MPs.
State president of the organisation Gambhir Singh Bisht said, “Around 1,863 families are facing the threat of losing the source of livelihood due to the harsh decision of the Central government to reduce the budget for the education scheme. Unfortunately, no BJP MP from Uttarakhand or the state government is trying to find a solution to the issue.” He threatened that if the sacked employees were not re-employed, they would intensify the protest.
Praveen Ramola, Satendra Nautiyal, Vivek Bhatt, Diwakar Rawal and Tajveer Negi took part in the protest.
