Six artists selected for Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi awards

CHANDIGARH:The Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi (PLKA) has selected six artists for Annual Akademi Awards - 2017 for excellence in different genres of visual arts.

The Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi (PLKA) has selected six artists for Annual Akademi Awards - 2017 for excellence in different genres of visual arts.

PLKA chairman Diwan Manna said six artists - three each in professional and student categories - would be entitled for individual cash prize of Rs 50,000 and 25,000, respectively.

Manna said the two-member jury consisting of internationally-acclaimed artiste and curator of Kochi Muziris Biennale, Sudarshan Shetty from Mumbai, and  GR Iranna from Delhi scrutinised as many as 237 artwork entries in the professional category, out of which 41 works are selected for the exhibition.

Similarly, a total of 172 artworks were received in the student category, out of which 19 works are selected for the exhibition.

These selected works will be displayed at the annual exhibition in second week of March and the winners will be presented awards at a function to be held at Punjab Kala Bhavan, said Manna.

Professional category awards (Rs 50,000 each): Rahul Dhiman, Aman Sohal and Gaurvi Sharma

Student category awards (Rs 25,000 each): Shivani, Ramneet Kaur and Surinder Pal Singh
