Rohtak, June 27

Representatives of several social organisations today staged a demonstration here to seek police action in the murder of a Dalit woman. The protesters took out a protest march from the new bus stand to the local mini-secretariat.

The DC as well as the ASP assured the protesters of prompt action but the latter decided to hold relay fasts to get the probe into the case expedited. Neetu, a Dalit woman of Rohtak town, had gone missing earlier this month. Her family members lodged a complaint with the police. Several days later, her decomposed body was found near Sector 3. However, the police investigation failed to nail the culprit(s).

Neetu had gone to work as a domestic help at the home of a woman Principal of a government school. However, she did not return from work. The protesters maintained that even after more than 20 days of the incident, the police still seem to be groping in the dark.

Sources claim the woman principal at whose house Neetu had gone to work is the sister of a BJP leader. It is being alleged that the police are not taking any concrete action due to political pressure. Neetu’s daughters are also stated to be studying at the school where the said woman principal is posted.

ASP Himanshu Garg assured the protesters that the woman’s killer (s) would be arrested within two days.
