Sujata Rajpal speaks on novel writing in literary session

The TS Central State Library organised a face-to-face interaction with Mysore-based novelist Sujata Rajpal on the premises here today. The engaging literary session was moderated by Anju Gupta, librarian in charge, which was attended by young student and veteran writers. 

Introducing the author and her creative writing  journey, Anju disclosed that the city bred and educated author Sujata’s very first 240 paged novel ‘The other end of the corridor’ won rave reviews which ran into three reprints and declared as the six best novels in English as the bestselling novel.  

Replying to various questions by inquisitive young writers on novel writing and publishing Sujata explained that novel in fact is a long sustained piece of prose fiction which needs patience and serious voracious reading of literature to attempt for novel writing. Besides, a meaningful potent plot and theme is very necessary. Since maintained that among the poetry, prose or drama genres, the novel is more popular being more enterprising, richer in content and wider in range.     

“Unfortunately modern youngsters with the paucity of time and patience want instant result like they get on social media,” she observed.   Senior authors, including poet Madhav Kaushik, vice-chairman, Chandigarh Sahitya akademi, participated in the Ru Ba Ru.
