In view of the forthcoming Amarnath yatra, a team led by Udhampur Food Safety Officer KK Choudhary conducted surprise checks at markets at Kud and Patnitop today.

The team inspected kitchens of some hotels at Kud and found rotten vegetables in some of them. After destroying the rotten material, the team directed the hotel authorities to maintain hygiene and cleanliness. It asked them to serve fresh meals to tourists and pilgrims.

During its drive, the team also found that some street vendors did not have licences.

Choudhary said that the aim of conducting such checks was to ensure that all street vendors and hotel owners abide by food safety norms.
