CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Police have dismissed a constable from his services against whom a departmental inquiry was initiated for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 300 from a couple at a park in Sector 20 a few years ago, The constable was then posted at the Sector 19 police station.

The Chandigarh Police have dismissed a constable from his services against whom a departmental inquiry was initiated for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 300 from a couple at a park in Sector 20 a few years ago, The constable was then posted at the Sector 19 police station.

Police sources said that a department inquiry was initiated against constables Rakesh and Pardeep on the complaint of the couple that alleged that constables took Rs 300 from them while they were sitting in the park.

The sources said that the inquiry into the matter was conducted by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sukhchain Singh Gill who found Rakesh guilty. Since Constable Rakesh was at present posted under SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, the inquiry was conducted by him.The sources said that Pardeep’s inquiry was still pending with Maneesh Chaudhary SSP (Traffic and Security).

Gill confirming the development said that he had dismissed the constable after the allegations made by the couple were found to be true. “The incident had taken place in 2012 after which the aggrieved couple had filed a complaint against both the constables with the Police Department following which a thorough inquiry was conducted”, the SSP said. The sources said that constable Rakesh had now appealed before DIG AS Cheema against his dismissal from the service.
