City MP Kirron Kher today said the Municipal Corporation (MC) will shut the existing garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra and start the new waste-to-energy plant by the end of this year.

Kirron, who was in Dadu Majra Colony to inaugurate a green park, tubewell and underground reservoir, also took a dig at Congress leaders as she said, “Aapke chahete log (Congress leaders) isse laaye the, nikaalne wale hum honge’.

The garbage processing plant was inaugurated during the Congress regime in 2008.

For the past several years, residents of Dadu Majra Colony had been protesting against the plant and the dumping ground in the area. Foul smell emitting from the ground is causing health problems to nearby area residents.

On the occasion, Mayor Arun Sood assured the local residents of early provision of the waste to energy plant, which would not only generate energy but also rid the area of the long pending problem of foul smell.

Sood said during this financial year, the Municipal Corporation completed different developmental projects worth Rs 11.5 crore in the Dadu Majra area.

Deputy mayor Hardeep Singh, area councillor Sat Parkash Aggarwal, MC Chief Engineer NP Sharma and other councillors and civic body officials were present.
