A mentally challenged woman who had crossed over to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) accidentally through the Uri sector of north Kashmir in October last year was sent back to the Indian side on Wednesday.

The woman in her fifties and believed to be from West Bengal was handed over by the Pakistani army to the Indian Army after the latter was informed about the woman.

“The Army was told earlier this week about the Bengali woman who had inadvertently gone across the LoC from the Uri sector a few months ago. She was handed over to the Army at the Kaman bridge,” a police source said.

“The woman is not speaking at all. She will be taken to Psychiatric Hospital, Srinagar, and we are hopeful of getting some information her,” a police officer said.
