From bromance to romance

Post the success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, the blue-eyed boy of Bollywood, Kartik Aaryan is enjoying his stardom, especially among the ladies. Aaryan, who is not new to Bollywood though, as he made his debut in 2011 with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, found his footing with the sequel of the film, Pyaar ka Punchnama 2 and has not looked back since; thanks to his monologues that have achieved a cult status among youth. “My journey in Bollywood has been different; I had to struggle to create a space for myself. But I am enjoying myself, my work,” said the actor while speaking with the Tribune at a store launch in Amritsar.

While the self-made actor rose to fame with anti-romance films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama series and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, he confessed that he is a romantic at heart. “I am a big fan of Bollywood romance films and I grew up watching Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar sweeping the ladies off their feet onscreen.”

The reason, he is all in for his role in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2, with Sara Ali Khan and being part of the remake of Pati Patni Aur Woh. “I am enjoying changing gears from bromance to romance. I always wanted to play a romantic role and totally love to be a part of romantic film,” he said.

Coming from a family of doctors, Aaryan has had a fair share of struggles, countless auditions to go through before hitting the spotlight. All throughout, he said his mother has been his biggest inspiration. “I have seen my mother struggle in life to get  where she wanted to. I wanted to go through my own share of challenges to understand the sense of achievement.” Talking about that, he does enjoy the fan flowing, especially among women. “I don’t know how to answer when anyone asks me that,” he replied with the charming smile. “I am the same in real life as well as in reel, maybe that clicks with my fans.”

Mobbing by fans is not new to him and he doesn’t get miffed. ‘I am really happy that people have come especially to see me on stage,” as another mob of crowd cheered loudly for him from the background.

As candid as he can get with his fans and media, the only question he really dodged was about his co-star Sara Ali Khan’s public confession of having a crush on him. Nonetheless, his expression may have been telltale.
