Cricket bookies’ gang busted, four held

KAITHAL: The Kaithal police have busted a gang of cricket bookies and arrested four men, however, two managed to flee.

The Kaithal police have busted a gang of cricket bookies and arrested four men, however, two managed to flee. The police also recovered as many as six mobiles and Rs 5,500 cash.

The CIA-2 team, led by in-charge Satyavan, on Saturday night got information that some cricket bookies at Jaswinder’s house in Arjan Nagar here were facilitating online betting on cricket IPL 20-20 between Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challenger Bangalore.

The police procured a search warrant of the house and sent a head constable as a dummy with Rs 500 signed currency notes. As soon as the dummy better handed over the currency notes to the bookies for a batsman scoring at least 10 runs in the 16th over, the police entered the house and overpowered the house owner, Jaswinder, Rakesh alias Rocky, prince alias happy and Raj Kumar, all residents of Arjan Nagar. Two others managed to flee. They have been identified as Gaurav Kumar and Shammi, residents of Kharadian Mohalla and Arjan Nagar, respectively.

All have been booked under Sections 3-4 and 3 /67 of Gambling Act. The police said they were later released on bail.
